In 1939, he was selected to become a lieutenant in the Special Branch of the Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve, a rank he would eventually bestow upon his iconic James Bond character. His final James Bond novel was published posthumously in 1965.

Yaroslav Horak is an illustrator and comics artist best known for his work on the James Bond newspaper comic strip. Some of his other work as a comic strip illustrator includes Rick Davis, The Skyman, Ray Thorpe, Ripon: The Man from Outer Space, Brenda Starr, The Mask: The Man of Many Faces, Captain Fortune, and Mike Steele: Desert Rider. He lives in Australia.
