Follow 49 crochet block patterns to create beautiful home accessories—from cushions and shoulder bags to lap and baby blankets! Explore visual illusion, exciting color contrasts, and geometric design in this guidebook for crocheters, yarn lovers, and quilters of all skill levels.
Using patchwork as her inspiration, this is a brand new, specially designed crochet block collection from the wonderfully talented Leonie Morgan. In these 49 patterns, Leonie explores visual illusion, contrast in light and shade, and beautiful geometry—and all can be assembled into larger designs. Whether you are building up patterns with leftover yarn or setting out with a specific color scheme in mind, this is a wonderfully creative process of creating a larger design from lots of smaller units.
This book includes:
• 49 patchwork crochet patterns which can be used as the basis for yarn quilts • 4 beautiful projects: shoulder bag, baby blanket, geometric cushion, lap blanket • Tips on crochet techniques: stitches, colorwork, reading patterns and charts • Advice on assembling and edging your crochet blocks
And what’s more, you can use the lovely blocks as inspiration to create your own lovely, crocheted block pieces!
YARN SUB Block by Block Crochet is full of colorful squares made using stripes, intarsia crochet (where a different ball of yarn is used for each area of color) and tapestry crochet (where unused colors are carried along the row until needed). The book also shows techniques for joining the squares together, including the crochet join (shown on the left below), which is one I've not used before. My go-to join for knitted squares is mattress stitch (on the right below), so I decided to make some squares from the book and see how the two methods compared. I found that the crochet join was easier to do and gave a neater finish than the mattress stitch. The crochet join is slightly bulkier, but that just helped to hide the messy edge. Being impressed with the results on crochet, I wondered how knitted squares would look with a crochet join. If you're already a crocheter, then there are some lovely squares to make in Block by Block Crochet. If you're a knitter, you never know what helpful stuff you might learn from a crochet book!
