Create gorgeous, stylish winter accessories for yourself or to give as gifts.

Bringing together 100 of the most beautiful winter knits from best-selling author and knitting designer Monica Russel’s 20 to Make series, these fabulous designs are quick and easy to make, and include scarves, wrist warmers, hats, boot cuffs, head bands, and snoods.

  • Beginners can start with patterns for basic head bands, snoods, and scarves with simple stitching and stripes, then move on to projects that require shaping techniques for hats, wrist warmers, and boot cuffs.
  • Experienced knitters will find more challenging projects with lace, cables, bobbles, beaded yarn, flowers, and intarsia patterns
  • Includes full explanations of knitting abbreviations used throughout, and all yarn weights are given in grams, yards, and meters.

Compiled from Russel's (100 Little Knitted Gifts to Make, 2016) contributions to the Twenty to Make series, these 100 patterns for winter accessories will satisfy beginning and experienced knitters alike. The simpler patterns include striped or lace scarves and several basic hats. Though they are all simply shaped, some of the wrist-warmer and boot-cuff patterns will require familiarity with intarsia techniques. But there are also intarsia patterns that will challenge, but not frustrate, those looking to elevate their beginning knitting game; the same is true for all of the cable patterns. All pattern abbreviations are explained, and all yarn weights are given in grams, yards, and meters. Directions for gage are given where necessary, but no finished sizes are listed. Knitters will find the variety of patterns inspiring, and most will not be able to resist making pig boot cuffs for their wellies. The range of style and skill level represented in these patterns for scarves, wrist warmers, headbands, hats, boot cuffs, and snoods make this a solid choice for all public library craft collections. — Susan Maguire
