While on vacation with her family, Avery finds a puppy whom she names Hazel. But where has Hazel come from? And how can Avery earn the little puppy's trust?

Holly Webb’s bestselling Pet Rescue Adventures series continues with The Frightened Puppy. Avery is excited to be on vacation with her family. They’re staying in a beautiful house right by the river and have a lot of fun activities planned. The only thing that would make the trip even better is if she had a dog to play with. So when she finds a puppy, whom she names Hazel, all alone by the water, Avery knows she has to help her. But where has Hazel come from? And how can Avery earn the little puppy’s trust?

Pet Rescue Adventures is a series of heartwarming animal tales. Each book focuses on one kitten or puppy and their unique journey to find their new "forever home." A wonderful collection of heartwarming tales, perfect for animal lovers!
Gr 1-3– In a new addition to the “Pet Rescue Adventures” series, Avery is on a vacation with her family and they are staying in a house right by the river. Between all the fun activities they have planned, she finds a dog who appears hungry and alone and names her Hazel. She is afraid that if she tells her parents, they will make her find the owner. She wants more time with the puppy, so she feeds her in secret. Hazel’s point of view is also briefly shared a few times, and readers learn that she was separated from her mom, abandoned by the river, and is very hungry. Readers will cruise through the story, hoping Avery and her family will rescue Hazel and take her home. The sketchlike illustrations bring life to the text. This is a short and sweet read about a girl who wants a puppy and a dog who wants a home. VERDICT A wonderful addition to any collection, especially where the series is already popular.--School Library Journal
