Welcome Welcome to the
Mission Possible Bible Study! I’m so glad you’re here. We’re going to dive into a topic that I’m sure you’ve had a ton of conversations about with your friends and maybe even strangers:
purpose. I hear all kinds of people, young and older, ask the very same question: “What is my purpose in life?”
It’s a weighty inquiry. And it doesn’t have a one-size-fits-all answer. Our purposes are as unique as we are, and they can ebb and flow in different seasons of life. So, rather than try to answer that question specifically and permanently for you, I want us to explore further what it means to live a life on mission. When we ask about “purpose,” what we’re really asking is how we find significance. We are given one life. How do we make it count?
Most of us want each of our days on this earth to matter. We want our lives to count for something greater than just existing. We want to believe that something more is going on here than simply feeling temporary pleasure or accumulating compliments, degrees, or social status. As followers of Jesus Christ, living lives of purpose is mission possible because of what God has done for us through Jesus.
Purpose flows from God’s ultimate mission to redeem His people. This is foundational. Without Christ, life will eventually feel relatively meaningless (no matter how carefully we attempt to curate experiences, relationships, and events). Only through new life in Him are we able to enjoy a relationship with God and glorify Him with our lives. We can also play a part in His grand purpose by loving and serving others, using the unique gifts, talents, and skills that God has given to each of us with the intention of making Him known to those around us. Be honest with yourself:
• Do you want your life to have a deeper sense of meaning?
• Do you want a greater sense of purpose intertwined in your day?
• Do you want to do things, starting now, that will leave a mark on this world for Jesus?
I promise you, God’s Word shows us that these things are mission possible for each and every one of us. Let’s get started and find out how!
How to Use This Guide You can work through this Bible study in a group setting or on your own. Also, it’s formatted to work in conjunction with my book
Mission Possible and the video teaching. If you haven’t read the book or won’t get a chance to watch the video segments, don’t worry. There’s plenty of content that will help you begin—today—to activate growth in your life.
This Bible study is divided into six sessions that each include the following:
1. Mission Vision
2. A Quick Look in the Rearview Mirror (sessions 2–6)
3. Jump Start
4. Talk About It
5. Video Teaching
6. Mission-Driven Discussion
7. Send-Off and Group Prayer
8. Your Midweek Mission: Four Days of Exercises and Prayer to Go Deeper
If you want to maximize your experience outside your small group, spend time in the personal study portion at the end of each session. This includes four days of assignments to reflect on what you’ve learned and what God has been speaking to you about.
What You’ll Need Unless otherwise marked, all the Scripture references in this guide are offered in the New American Standard Bible (NASB). If you prefer a different version, have a Bible or Bible app handy to look up the verses in the translation of your choice. Space for writing is provided in this guide, but feel free to use a journal or digital device to jot down notes or anything that speaks to you. Finally, you’ll get the most out of this guide if you read it alongside my book Mission Possible.
