A24 is taking on Priscilla Presley’s bestselling memoir Elvis and Me in the Sofia Coppola-directed Priscilla. Known for her intimate, dreamy, and nuanced portrayals of femininity and adolescence in movies like The Virgin Suicides and Marie Antoinette, Sofia Coppola’s take on Elvis and Priscilla’s relationship, which began when they met at Priscilla’s tender age of 14, is sure to grab headlines as soon as it drops in theaters. With a stronger focus on the female gaze in cinema (think movies like Barbie) and with the continued reevaluation of our heroes from the perspective of the #MeToo movement, Priscilla hits right at the center of cultural conversations.
